Afterburner Vortex

Full details of what could be the most powerful rear silencer available for your Impreza!

Since its launch, in late 2002, the original Afterburner quickly became regarded by many, as the performance rear silencer for the Subaru Impreza.

We have spent many months working alongside exhaust experts Hayward and Scott, developing the Afterburner product even further, and are now very pleased to be able to introduce the new Afterburner Vortex.

Whilst we have kept the great Afterburner exhaust note, we have greatly improved the gas extraction capabilities of the exhaust by reducing the pipework bends to a bare minimum (see image on right), and introducing an almost unique spiralled baffle section, resulting in the gasses literally being spun out of the exhaust, drastically improving power at around 5k RPM.

This results in our most powerful exhaust ever, due to greatly improved gas extraction, alongside a Japanese street racer style angled exit from the rear of the car (we also offer the Afterburner Vortex with a straight exit from the rear of the car - see options list below).

We have also subtly improved the design of the silencer itself, eradicating 'drone' at cruising speeds, yet keeping the great Afterburner soundtrack, which made it famous.

Finally, due to the enormous sales of the Afterburner, we have managed to bring the manufacturing prices down, meaning we are now able to offer our Afterburner Vortex at just £279.99 inc VAT!!

Customer Reviews
"WRX Impreza Type UK STI 2003/4 (new style) The vortex provides quite a noticeable difference throughout the rev range and in particlar 1st and 2nd gear. The slight turbo lag in 1st gear is completely gone, probably due to reduced back pressure. Did I mention how spectacular it sounds. Believe me the sound files do NOT do it justice. Quite simply outrageous bit of kit. :-)" P.Weighand.

To prove the power of the new Afterburner Vortex, we paid a visit to Engine Advantaged Ltd in Essex, and spent an afternoon on their rolling road, testing not only our new Afterburner Vortex, but also the original Afterburner and an Afterburner Vortex without the spiralled baffled section. We set out to prove the real performance gains from minimising bends in the Afterburner Vortex's pipework and also the spiralled baffled section itself. We used our own WRX03 for the Rolling Road sessions.

Thanks to Ian Reeve at Hayward and Scott and to the team at Engine Advantages (tel 01376 502 522) for their help and use of the facilities.

The blue lines equates to BHP (Flywheel) the top red line Torque and bottom red line BHP (at the wheels). Afterburner Vortex shown as a dotted line.

Previous Afterburner Vs Afterburner Vortex
The power graph below clearly shows the performance gains of the Afterburner Vortex over the previous Afterburner. It can be clearly seen that at 4.5k rpm the standard Afterburner's rate of BHP climb slows, then becomes inconsistent, whereas the new Afterburner Vortex continues in a consistent BHP climb to almost 6k rpm.

Afterburner with Angled Exit Vs Afterburner Vortex
The power graph below shows the difference the spiralled baffle section (Vortex) makes, as both exhausts were identical apart from this. At 5k revs the Afterburner Vortex continues at a high rate of climb on the BHP scale (blue lines) whereas the identical exhaust without the spiralled baffle starts to lose its rate of BHP climb.

Previous Afterburner Vs Afterburner with Angled Exit
The following graph demonstrates the benefits of minimising pipework bends leading up to the rear silencer. Please note that the dotted blue line shows the standard Afterburner's BHP which becomes inconsistent at 4.5k RPM whereas the Afterburner with an angled exit continues to climb at a consistent rate. This exhaust did not have the spiralled centre section (Vortex) so the only difference between the two silencers was the pipework leading the the silencer itself.

Made by Hayward and Scott
Hayward and Scott have gained an excellent reputation for high performance exhaust systems, and have proved this with our previous Afterburner systems, this is why we use chose them to make our Afterburner Vortex for us.

25 Year Warranty
All Afterburners come with a 'no quibble' 25 year warranty against manufacturing or material defects.

Available for all Impreza, Legacy and Forester models
The Afterburner is fully tested on all the above cars to ensure easy 'fit first time' installation, high performance and the legendary Subaru flat four rumble.

3 day exchange
We are so confident that you'll be thrilled with your Afterburner purchase, that we offer a 3 day exchange warranty, meaning that in the unlikely event that you are not entirely happy with your Afterburner, we will exchange it for any other exhaust in our range.

Low frequency rumble rising to 'howl' on full boost
No other exhaust sounds like an Afterburner, due mostly to the silencer and tailpipe design. On tickover you can almost feel the throbbing of the engine, whilst spirited driving produces a grin inducing 'howl'!

Performance increases of up to 30bhp can be achieved from a full Afterburner systems (downpipe, centre and rear silencer).
